Abandoned Prosperity

America, for all its supposed wealth and prosperity, has many abandoned places. From natural disasters, to foreclosures, to budget cuts, to rebuilding; I've seen quite a few in my short life-time. All across this vast country people are homeless, when there are many buildings and places that could be "repurposed" to house them. This blog is all about the places I've lived and explored, over the past 50 years. It also involves other things of interest to me, which will become apparent as I continue along. Most places and events I can only remember and have no photographs of them. Currently, I'm active in exploring the current state I live in, Tennessee, when time permits me to do so. Follow along in my foot-steps as I clambour over and sometimes into the abandoned debris of our society...from junkyards to cellars to my own mind.

Just a Squall

Just to let anyone who's actually reading this here blog that, I'm still around but recovering from the effects of the latest flu virus and "walking pneumonia". Also, to make a point that Winter is far from over. The pics here I took February 9th, 2013 at the onset of the blizzard we had that day. I took most of the shots from behind the safety of my front screen door or window. I mean really...who would abandon their sanity and venture out into this shit? Then I forgot that I did back in the super storm of March '93. But, I was in the National Guard then and didn't have a choice. Being a true "snow baby", I didn't really mind.

I don't quite remember the amount we got in my area but, it was well over 2 feet; though the drifts may have one believing it was much, much more.

"White-out" conditions were expected, as per usual. I took these shots at 08.24 & 08.25 but as you can see, it was still quite dark...

Isn't it weird how the drifting snow will build up in one place or another yet, leave nothing on the roof of a building?

Hard-core smokers, like my neighbour here, will come out in this. I know because I use to do this, myself. I'm still thanking myself that I had the where-with-all to quit smoking when I did (March 16, 1998 but who's counting?)

Aftermath and hours of digging out the vehicles, porches and patios, not to mention the fire lanes. I have a feeling we are long over-due for a major dumping but...I could be wrong. It's just a feeling I get... I have a lot more shots but I'll be featuring them on my DeviantART page. Drop me a note if you want to venture there ;)

  1. Hi Subby,

Every so often I search for you and never seem to find you but I am so happy to finally find you again. I miss you and hope you are feeling better. I swear I have been sick for over a year now. Also with me injuring my other shoulder I find it hard to type all the time. Have tried the voice typing thingys but I think I spend more time trying to correct it than if I had just tried to type it.

You know half the people who used to blog with us have seemed to stop and their sites are either gone or just sit idle. A lot of them have moved to just doing Facebook which I find to be about the most boring place on earth. I think it because there is a loss of imagination that one once saw on their blogs. I am not sure why everyone thinks it is so important for others to see what they are doing every hour of the day or if they are bored to death or happy as a fiddle. For me it seems as if it is a case of everyone trying to out do the Jones and the grass is rarely greener on the other side.

Right at this moment I am having a not so painful moment so am able to type. Sometimes if I do not move my shoulder and it is able to rest then I am pain free for a bit. Plus this one is not near as injured as the other one and so far is slowly healing. Not sure I could do the surgery thing again. That side has not fully recovered after all these years. Sometimes I move it in just the wrong way and oh do I pay. Big yelps can be heard by the neighbors. And my lungs are doing a bit better. Have a lung infection right now but am improving. Bunch of other things wrong but am handling it.

I just bought some fruits and veggies to try and make some smoothies to see if that helps. Everyone keeps telling me to try juicing but it just seems as if so much of the fruit and vegetables are turned into a pulp and just thrown into the trash. Just that they are both a lot of work.

And so now that I have written one of the longest comments in such a long time, I hope that is okay and that all is well with you. Also that you have not frozen into a giant popsicle from all that snow you all have been getting lately. We have been having a very warm winter while watching all of you freeze. We wish we had some of it. Usually our local mountains are covered in snow but this year there has been very little. No ads for our mountains on TV either. There is no snow to go to.

Please stop by to visit when you can. I am still doing TT but at times just hanging in there with it too.

    Miss you.

    God bless.

  2. Hi luv! It has been a while, hasn't it? Sorry to hear of your ills :( It's been pretty tough for me as well, the past 4 years (not so much meself as me Mum has been in & out of hospital for a while now...) I'd send you a tube of prilocaine if it'd help. Works wonders on my bursitis ;)

I run 4 blogs now. Got back into it late 2012. But no more admin on other blogs or group things. I'm also heavy into my writing & am working on at least 3 books (though I'm not sure how I'll go about publishing them, as yet)

Mum keeps me busy. I've been her PCA for 3 or so years now, though she's lived with me since mid 2006.

I'll have to link you up to this blog. I trust you're still using the blog I remember? Will check it ;)

Hugs to ya, luv & God bless :)
